Luke 13:1-5 " A hard teaching"

Luke 13:1-5
Tough passage, preaching the whole council of God
Explain passage content.
1. What happened?
Gen 3 The fall.
50 million people die every year, 6,000 every hour and 100 every minute. Most die young and in pain or as a result of tragedy.
September 11- Where was God?
The Supremacy of God in everything. Evil leads us to consider ourselves and who God really is , knowing God helps us love him and have assurance in him.
Psalm 115:3- Our God is in the heavens he does what he pleases.
Isaiah 45:7- I form light and create darkness, I make well being and create calamity, I am the Lord ho does all these things.
Romans 8:18- READ
The events in this passage happened as a result of sin.
Deformities, Calamities, Diseases, are all previews of sin and Judgment.
SIN IS HORRIBLE.
2. Examine yourself
We are all sinners Romans 3:23
Romans 7:24- Who will rescue me from this body of death. (This dying body).
Deodorant and Toothpaste. Decay
Where do I stand before God?
John Calvin The substance of it is, that many are
endured for a time who deserve to be cut off; but that they gain
nothing by the delay, if they persist in their obstinacy. The wicked
flattery, by which hypocrites are hardened, and become more obstinate,
arises from this cause, that they do not think of their sins till they
are compelled; and, therefore, so long as God winks at these, and
delays his chastisements, they imagine that he is well satisfied with
them. Thus they indulge themselves more freely, as if, to use the words
of Isaiah, (28:15,) they had made a covenant with death, and were in
friendship with the grave. And this is the reason why Paul denounces
them in such earnestness of language for treasuring up to themselves the wrath of God against the last day,

Romans 2:5 But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God.

Since God is not punishing me he must be pleased with me even if I don’t have Christ.

The fate of the wicked-

Deuteronomy 32:35-

“Vengeance is mine and recompense, for their foot will slip in due time, for the day of calamity is at hand and their doom comes quickly.

Some are punished quickly and swiftly and some are held up until the wrath is to come full measure.

Disaster looms for the unresponsive; there is still time to repent.

The people assumed that the ones who dies were more wicked than them. The fact is that we are all deserving of death as a result of our sin.

Are you ready if this happens to you. Are your sins forgiven?

Party at the Palms- Blessed Assurance

Grace alone keeps us alive. 2x he tells us to repent, he owes us nothing. Heart beats.

We sin and we need a savior!

3. This is why the cross makes sense.

Mary and the sufferings of the cross and the glory of God (an example of how God does things.

4. Behold I make all things new (The fate of the righteous)

The New Heavens and New Earth

Revelation 21:5

Revelation 21 READ

Colossions 1:14- In him we have redemption the forgiveness of sins.

Romans 8:28- All things work together for good. All things.

Because of his grace in Christ we have forgiveness, Repent and be saved or remain in wickedness and perish.
